We erected a new Bicikelj stop on Zois Street, opposite the French Embassy. The artistic project was created in collaboration with Europlakat, the City of Ljubljana, and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Part of the bicycles in the Bicikelj system have been retired; some of these have now been used to create the BicikeLJ No. 0 Stop. The sculpture was created by MA Sculpture Studies student Tin Švagelj, under the mentorship of professor Alen Ožbolt.
In the context of his artwork, Tin combined sustainable mobility with the European Green Capital 2016 title, which was awarded to Ljubljana. By using obsolete bicycles and arranging them to form a tree with a treetop, he provided shelter to the successors of these bicycles which have only just started their mobility mission as a part of the Bicikelj stops. He named the sculpture “BicikeLJ No. 0 Stop.”
The sculpture was presented as part of the activities organized by the City of Ljubljana in the context of the European Mobility Week. The project once again brings together thousands of European cities between 16 and 22 September with the aim of ensuring friendlier forms of mobility and a better quality of life to their inhabitants.
